How to get more Google reviews

No tricks: a link that opens your review form, asked of every customer at the right moment, with one follow-up. Here is the whole system, with a free tool for each step.

The system, step by step

  1. Get your review link

A link that opens the star rating on Google, not your profile page. Every other step uses it.

  2. Put a QR code where customers pay

On the counter, invoices and receipts, so a customer in front of you can leave a review in seconds.

  3. Print a card

A business card, table tent or counter sign with the QR code on it.

  4. Ask every customer, the same day

Most reviews come from being asked: by email or text after the job, in your own words.

  5. Follow up once

One reminder a few days later reaches the customers who meant to and forgot. Then stop.

  6. Reply to every review

Thank the good ones by name and answer the critical ones calmly and specifically. Future customers read the replies too.

What not to do

Don't ask only the customers you expect to be happy, don't offer anything for a review, and don't buy or swap reviews. Each one breaks Google's policy, and Google can remove reviews or restrict the profile.

Questions

What is the quickest way to get more Google reviews?
Ask every customer the same day the job is done, by email or text, with a link that opens the review form directly. A clear ask and one tap to the form remove the usual reasons people never get round to it.
Can I buy Google reviews?
No. Buying reviews breaks Google's policy and the FTC's rule, and Google removes them and can restrict the profile.
Should I reply to reviews?
Yes, to every one. A short thank-you for good reviews and a calm, specific answer to critical ones show future customers how you treat people.
Am I allowed to ask for reviews at all?
Yes. Google encourages businesses to ask their customers for reviews; what it does not allow is incentives, asking only happy customers, and fake reviews.
