Ask every customer in a Google Sheet for a review
Share a sheet of customers and GossipGarden reads it every 15 minutes. Each customer in it is asked once, and each row you add later is asked too. No Zapier needed.
Connect your tools › Google Sheets · Checked against the vendors' own documentation on October 16, 2026.
What you need
- A Google Sheet with one customer per row and a title in each column of row 1: at least Name and Email (or Phone).
- The sheet shared as “Anyone with the link” can view, which lets GossipGarden read it. It can only read; it can't change your sheet.
- Your business and review link set up in GossipGarden.
Your private address. Every account has one. Find it in GossipGarden under Settings › Connect and copy it from there. It ends in 22 letters and numbers, and anyone who has it can add customers to your account, so keep it private. If it leaks, make a new one on the same page and the old one stops working at once.
Set it up
You choose how to start before anything is read for real, so a long old list can't be emailed by surprise.
- Share the sheet
In Google Sheets choose Share, set General access to “Anyone with the link” and the role to Viewer.
- Paste its address in GossipGarden
Open Settings › Connect and paste the sheet's address from your browser's address bar into Sheet address. Don't use a “publish to the web” link: it has no sheet number we can read.
- Check the sheet
Choose Check the sheet. GossipGarden reads it and tells you how many customers it found. Nobody is created and nobody is asked yet.
- Choose how to start
“Ask all now, then every new row” asks everyone in the sheet, within your daily sending limit, and then every row you add. “Only ask rows added from now on” leaves the customers already in the sheet as they are and asks only later rows.
- Add customers as you go
From then on, add a row for each customer and it is asked within about 15 minutes. You can check a sheet now, pause it or remove it from the same page.
What the columns need
Row 1 holds the column titles. GossipGarden recognises these, in any capitalisation:
| Name | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| name | Name, Full name, Customer name, or First name and Last name. | Optional. Without one, the email address stands in. |
| Email, Email address, Customer email. | Needed to ask by email. | |
| phone | Phone, Mobile, Cell, Phone number. | Saved with the customer. A phone number alone isn't asked: texting needs consent. |
| id | ID, Job ID, Invoice number, Order number. | Optional. With one, the same customer on a new job (a new ID) is asked for that job. Without one, each customer is asked once for the sheet. |
If it doesn't work
- “We can't open that sheet.”
- The sheet isn't shared with “Anyone with the link”, or the address is for another file. Share it as Viewer and paste the address again.
- The check finds no customers.
- Row 1 needs column titles such as Name and Email. If row 1 is a customer, add a row above it with titles. Rows with only a phone number aren't asked.
- Will old customers be asked when I connect a long sheet?
- Only if you choose “Ask all now”. Choose “Only ask rows added from now on” and the customers already there are left as they are.
- I fixed a row's email address. Will it be asked?
- Yes, if it was refused because it had no valid address, it is asked on the next check. A customer who was already asked isn't asked again for the same row.
- How big can the sheet be?
- GossipGarden reads up to 5,000 rows and 10 MB. If your sheet has more, it reads the last 5,000, so rows added at the bottom are still found. You can connect up to five sheets.
- Can I load a sheet just once, during setup?
- Yes. Step 2 of setup has “Load customers from a Google Sheet”, which reads the sheet once and adds its customers to your list. You can keep it connected afterwards from Settings › Connect.
Every customer this sends is asked exactly like one you type in: the same ask, to everyone, never twice for the same job. Nothing in this guide, in the address or in GossipGarden looks at how the visit went, and you shouldn't filter on it either: asking only the happy customers is review gating, which Google and the FTC prohibit. What review gating is and why it matters.
