Ask every Housecall Pro customer for a review when a job is completed
When a job is completed in Housecall Pro, the customer on it is asked for a Google review. There are two ways to send it: through Zapier, or with Housecall Pro's own webhook.
Connect your tools › Housecall Pro · Checked against the vendors' own documentation on October 16, 2026.
What you need
- A GossipGarden account with your business and review link set up, and your private address from Settings › Connect.
- For Zapier: Housecall Pro's Zapier connection, which Housecall Pro offers on its Essentials, Essentials+ and MAX plans (formerly Grow, Manage and XL), and a Zapier plan with Webhooks by Zapier.
- For the direct way: Housecall Pro's MAX plan. Housecall Pro offers webhooks only there.
Your private address. Every account has one. Find it in GossipGarden under Settings › Connect and copy it from there. It ends in 22 letters and numbers, and anyone who has it can add customers to your account, so keep it private. If it leaks, make a new one on the same page and the old one stops working at once.
Set it up
With Zapier
Zapier checks Housecall Pro for completed jobs every few minutes and sends each one on.
- Switch the Zapier app on in Housecall Pro
In Housecall Pro open My Apps, find Zapier in the App Store and enable it. Housecall Pro shows an API key; Zapier asks for it when you connect.
- Start the Zap with Housecall Pro
Choose Housecall Pro as the trigger app and New Completed Job as the event (Housecall Pro's own article calls it “Job Finished”). Connect your account and test the trigger so Zapier loads a recent completed job.
- Add Webhooks by Zapier, POST
Choose Webhooks by Zapier and the POST event. Paste your private address as the URL and set Payload Type to JSON. The Zapier guide has the detail.
- Map the fields
Fill in Data with the rows below, picking each value from the Housecall Pro step.
- Test, then look in GossipGarden
Test the step. An answer of 202 with status created means the customer is in. Then open Settings › Connect to see it listed, and turn the Zap on.
What to send
Add one row per field, with the name on the left exactly as written and the matching value from the earlier step on the right. Only an email address or a phone number is required.
| Name | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| name | Customer First Name and Customer Last Name, as two rows named first_name and last_name (or Customer Display Name as name). | Housecall Pro keeps first and last names apart. |
| The customer's email: Customer Email. | Housecall Pro's customers don't always have one, and a customer without an email address or consent to text can't be asked. | |
| phone | The customer's mobile number: Customer Mobile Number. | Saved with the customer, not asked on its own. |
| external_id | Job ID. | A customer is asked once for each job, however often Zapier sends it. |
| source | Type housecall-pro. | Names the tool in Recent customers received. |
With Housecall Pro's own webhook (MAX plan)
No Zapier. Housecall Pro posts the finished job to your address, and GossipGarden reads the customer straight from it.
- Open the Webhooks app in Housecall Pro
In Housecall Pro open My Apps and the Webhooks app. Turn it on (Active).
- Paste your address with ?source=housecall-pro on the end
It looks like https://…/functions/v1/hooks/YOUR-TOKEN?source=housecall-pro. The ending names the tool, so its job numbers are kept apart from any other tool's.
- Tick one event: job completed
Choose the event job.completed and no other. Your address asks every customer it receives, and a job that is only created or scheduled isn't done yet. If other job events arrive anyway, GossipGarden skips them.
- Save, finish a job, and look in GossipGarden
Save the webhook. When the next job is completed, the customer appears under Recent customers received in Settings › Connect. Housecall Pro signs each delivery with a secret; GossipGarden doesn't check that signature, because your address is itself the secret, so keep it private.
What we read from it
| It becomes | In the payload | Why |
|---|---|---|
| name | job.customer.first_name and job.customer.last_name | The customer's name. |
| job.customer.email | The address the request goes to. | |
| phone | job.customer.mobile_number (then home and work numbers) | The customer's phone, saved with them. |
| external_id | job.id | The job number: asked once for each. |
The webhook step in detail, with every field and every answer: the Zapier
If it doesn't work
- A completed job didn't ask anyone.
- Look under Recent customers received. “Not added — no email or phone” means the customer has neither in Housecall Pro: add an email address to the customer and complete a job again. Nothing at all means the Zap is off, or the webhook isn't saved, or the address is wrong (a 404 in the Zap's history).
- Will a customer be asked every time I complete a job for them?
- Once for each job. If they already have a request in progress they aren't asked again, and every new job opens a request only when the earlier one is finished.
- I ticked more events than job.completed.
- GossipGarden skips events other than job.completed and job.paid, so a job being created or scheduled doesn't ask anyone. Untick the rest anyway to keep Housecall Pro's own log tidy.
- Does this work with Housecall Pro's lead or estimate events?
- No. This guide is for finished jobs. A lead or an estimate isn't a customer who has been served yet.
Every customer this sends is asked exactly like one you type in: the same ask, to everyone, never twice for the same job. Nothing in this guide, in the address or in GossipGarden looks at how the visit went, and you shouldn't filter on it either: asking only the happy customers is review gating, which Google and the FTC prohibit. What review gating is and why it matters.
