Ask every Shopify customer for a review when an order is fulfilled

When an order is fulfilled in Shopify, its customer is asked for a review. You can send it straight from your Shopify admin, with no Zapier, or through Zapier.

Connect your tools › Shopify · Checked against the vendors' own documentation on October 16, 2026.

What you need

  • A GossipGarden account with your business and review link set up, and your private address from Settings › Connect.
  • For the direct way: access to your Shopify admin's notification settings. No Zapier needed.
  • For Zapier: a paid Zapier plan. Shopify is a premium app on Zapier, and so is Webhooks.

Your private address. Every account has one. Find it in GossipGarden under Settings › Connect and copy it from there. It ends in 22 letters and numbers, and anyone who has it can add customers to your account, so keep it private. If it leaks, make a new one on the same page and the old one stops working at once.

Set it up

With a webhook from your Shopify admin (no Zapier)

Shopify posts the fulfilled order to your address, and GossipGarden reads the customer straight from it.

  1. Open the webhook settings

In your Shopify admin go to Settings › Notifications and find Webhooks. Choose Create webhook.

  2. Choose the event and the format

Set Event to Order fulfillment and Format to JSON.

  3. Paste your address with ?source=shopify on the end

It looks like https://…/functions/v1/hooks/YOUR-TOKEN?source=shopify. Shopify won't accept an address on a Shopify domain or your own store's domain; yours isn't.

  4. Save, fulfil an order, and look in GossipGarden

Save the webhook. When the next order is fulfilled, the customer appears under Recent customers received in Settings › Connect. Shopify signs each delivery; GossipGarden doesn't check that signature, because your address is itself the secret, so keep it private.

What we read from it

It becomesIn the payloadWhy
namecustomer.first_name and customer.last_name (or the shipping address's name)The customer's name.
emailemail, or customer.emailThe address the request goes to.
phonecustomer.phone, or the order's or shipping address's phoneThe customer's phone, saved with them.
external_idid (the order)The order: asked once for each.

With Zapier

Zapier's Shopify trigger for fulfilled orders is instant.

  1. Start the Zap with Shopify

Choose Shopify as the trigger app and New Fulfilled Order as the event. Connect your store and test the trigger so Zapier loads a recent order.

  2. Add Webhooks by Zapier, POST

Choose Webhooks by Zapier and the POST event. Paste your private address as the URL and set Payload Type to JSON. The Zapier guide has the detail.

  3. Map the fields

Fill in Data with the rows below, picking each value from the Shopify step. If a label isn't worded exactly as shown, pick the field that holds the same thing.

  4. Test, then look in GossipGarden

Test the step. An answer of 202 with status created means the customer is in. Then open Settings › Connect to see it listed, and turn the Zap on.

What to send

Add one row per field, with the name on the left exactly as written and the matching value from the earlier step on the right. Only an email address or a phone number is required.

NameChooseWhy
nameCustomer First Name and Customer Last Name, as two rows named first_name and last_name.Shopify keeps first and last names apart.
emailThe customer's email: Customer Email, or the order's Email.Orders can come without a customer record (point of sale, draft orders); the order's email is the fallback.
phoneThe customer's phone: Customer Phone, or Shipping Address Phone.Saved with the customer, not asked on its own.
external_idThe order's Id.A customer is asked once for each order, however often Zapier sends it.

If it doesn't work

Fulfilled orders don't ask anyone.
Look under Recent customers received. Nothing there means the webhook isn't saved or the address is wrong. “Not added — no email or phone” means Shopify sent an order with neither (some point-of-sale orders).
I chose Order creation instead of Order fulfillment.
Then customers are asked when they order, before anything has arrived. Choose Order fulfillment. If you also keep a creation webhook, the fulfilment one finds the order already handled and does nothing.
A customer ordered twice.
They are asked once for each order, unless they already have a request in progress.

Every customer this sends is asked exactly like one you type in: the same ask, to everyone, never twice for the same job. Nothing in this guide, in the address or in GossipGarden looks at how the visit went, and you shouldn't filter on it either: asking only the happy customers is review gating, which Google and the FTC prohibit. What review gating is and why it matters.
